Seven Random Things

Varsha had tagged me on this one.  I am not on any of the social blogging networks so I am not sure of my footing here. I am just learning the ropes and and I am sure the youngsters out there in blogosphere will help me along!

So here goes:

  1. Old Hindi film songs: Old means Ooooold — like the 1950-60s. Well, maybe  I will include some films from the early 70s. No later. I got about 100 or so cassettes from my elder sister who has a huge collection dating further back! These melodies are great for any kind of mood I might be in, especially when my nerves are frazzled.
  2. The smell of wet earth. Nothing to beat the lovely aroma of that. When the first rains fall, I would rush from one window/balcony to another and sniff like a sniffer dog. The best thing of course is to be out in the open countryside, like when you are in the train and the drops fall on parched earth…
  3. I hate people reading over my shoulder anything —the newspaper or magazine that I am reading to what I am writing on my PC. Why can’t they get their own reading material and hasn’t anyone taught them that it is impolite to peek?
  4. S.E.Hinton: I have read and re-read her ‘The Outsiders’ so many times that I have lost count. Ponyboy, Soda, Darry, Two-bit Mathews, Johnny….the characters are all etched in my memory. I cry every time I read it and that is saying something!
  5. Popping bubble packs is a favourite pastime. I hide the stuff whenever we get anything wrapped in it and have hours of fun popping each one and savoring the sound! The boys know that a piece of the magic material can put a smile on their growling ma’s face.
  6. I have this funny habit of picking out uneven pieces of cut fruits or any other munchies before eating the larger and whole pieces. I do this systematically till the largest piece is left for the last mouthful. It is a bad idea because the others who have finished first sometimes grab the carefully saved pieces and deprive me of the joy of enjoying them L
  7. I have a huge collection of knives. Love collecting them. It includes a knife with a tiny blade for peeling fruits and a huge cleaver with which I chop and mince my…veggies, of course!

  3. Hey,
Dunno much about taggin’, but sure as ever we share our love for the same random things(1 thro’ 5)…..with one exception, your love for collecting knives ! You’d mentioned to me about collecting knives one time…..pretty unusual/strange I’d thought……but girl, we do enjoy so many of the the same things without doubt….old songs of 50s ‘n 60s that drive away the blues, smell of first rains on the parched earth, S.E.Hinton, ” The Outsiders” is definitely my all time favourite book…haven’t read it for long now – have to dig it out….popping bubble packs – love it !

    1. That’s nice Chits. Glad to know we share so many things. I think very few will have a quirk like no 6! I didn’t know you loved Hinton too! Have you seen the movie? Awesome. One of the few films that has done justice to the book, I would say. Tagging means you literally tag someone who visits your blog or vice versa(??) to post their version of the tag on their blog and tag more people. This is a way of widening the network, I guess.

Yes, knives. Come and I will show you all of them!

    1. It is ‘itni na insaafi’, but never mind. Are you or are you not, going to do the tag, that is. As for tagging Vinni, well it would be akin to ‘vaadyarukke paadam solli kodukkaradu.
