My spirits lift whenever I see a well-tended garden or park with its burst of colours and fragrance, or even a traffic island teeming with colourful blossoms. So you can imagine how I must have felt when we visited England this summer. The profusion of flowers everywhere – in front gardens, sidewalks, gardens, parks and even tube stations! The incredible colours and the exotic varieties – all took my breath away. Needless to say, I clicked, and clicked some more of all the colours.
Disclaimer: I am no photographer, and have mostly used an old Moto G to take the pictures. So please enjoy the post for the colours without looking for technical perfection!
Recently while organising the photographs taken during our visit, the colour blue jumped out from many of them. Not that I am complaining. It is one of my favourite colours, one that soothes my mind and lifts it up simultaneously. But I had not gone searching for those blue subjects – flowers, sky, water…They simply abounded around me in so many shades from blue and mauve to purple. Unfortunately I don’t know the names of most of the flowers.
And the sky! I remember seeing such blue skies only during my childhood in India in the cities. Alas, that is only a distant and fading memory now. Of course it can still be seen in its pristine vastness over the mountains of the ranges in various parts of the country, especially the Himalayas, but again, it is not a daily pleasure for most of us. Which is why the dazzling blue skies in England were doubly entrancing. Just soak in the colours and marvel at the creation of Nature!

Mauve beauty – Allium
On an aside, did you know that blue is the most popular colour in the world? Not with just men/boys as dress manufacturers would have you believe, but also with a large percentage of women. It is a deeply spiritual colour representing space and vastness. It is the colour of Krishna! It also has a lot of positive aspects to it, as those who study colours would tell you. It is the colour of the sea, the sky and infinity. Unfortunately, only its negative aspect of causing depression and coldness is often emphasised perhaps because the darker shades of blue signify these qualities. Those are some really beautiful captures….it must have been an eye candy to watch all those, right?The picture, another blue flower painted by nature. Have never seen such a thing. It looks so rare. You should buy a camera now 🙂

Knowing my love for flowers, Diya and her parents tried to take me to places where there would be blooms and more blooms 🙂 It was not difficult because wherever one turned there were colourful flowers. A walk through the neighbourhood would be such a pleasure, with all front garden teeming with summer flowers, notably roses – such huge ones too! As for a camera, I have one, but don’t use it much – I feel so conscious 😛 Now I am thinking of learning to use it properly. Vinni had bought it for me some years back.

Such serenity in these pictures, Zephyr. As serene as the aura of the colour blue. Aah…Krishna’s colour, the colour of spiritual consciousness (according to Sri Aurobindo). So no wonder you were so mesmerized and enchanted by all that blue of the flowers, of the sky, of the water. Beautiful post!

Blue indeed is serene and uplifting. And Krishna! I remember writing it in my post but in the many edits and cut-pastes, it must have got deleted. Thanks for reminding me and I have now added the Divine flautist in the post 🙂 I was so fascinated by the colours in the photos that I dared to share them, good clicks or no. Blue seems to be the favourite colour of so many women that I am beginning to suspect the study that says nearly 47% of women love it. I am sure the percentage should be much higher.

I am so happy you loved the photographs even if they were just that – and not great captures. The things is, I had always wanted to do a photo feature and couldn’t get up the courage to do it with my amateurish captures. But this time I overcame the hesitation because the blues beckoned to be shared 😀 Hugs.

The blue of the sky definitely lift ones spirits up especially on a bright sunny day and i love the first mark an ink blue pen leave on a prestige sheet of paper 🙂

I am with you about loving the blue sky, but this is the first time I am hearing someone talk about the first stroke of blue on a white paper! Very interesting. Sadly, like the blue skies of my childhood, ink pens are also an endangered species today, aren’t they?

Wow! Those are some beautiful captures. Did you know that blue is my favourite colour. There was a time when my entire wardrobe was different shades of blue before Gurdev came into my life. 🙂 So I can totally believe that it is the most favourite colour in the world.

Thanks for the generous compliments on the clicks 🙂 The blooms during an English summer are unbelievably colourful and beautiful. Living in Bangalore you must be getting to see a lot of them too. I love blue but hardly have any blue clothes. For me it is shades of brown, much to the exasperation of the daughters 🙂
